    COLORS IN MOTION AA

In the Colors in Motion series, I unite my love of painting with my love of dance.  Various ballet terms that suggest movement inspired the series.  Jete is a jump from one foot to the other, petit jete--a small jump, glissade--a sliding or gliding step, while ballon implies the feeling of lightness, like a balloon floating through the air.

My technique in this series was to pit several colors against a color field

to discover how they vibrate and play off each other.  I applied texture to build up the oils, using impasto or scumbling to achieve a feeling of speed and motion.  Long, arching brush strokes were used to create a sense of freedom and grace and bring the theme to fruition.
