ABOUT SQUARETANGLE

The Squaretangle series is my tribute to Josef Albers, who used the square to demonstrate color theory.  By juxtaposing colors, one square inside another, Albers showed color relationships--how the same color seemed to change depending upon what color surrounded it.

This series focuses on color, composition, texture and form.  I used various color combinations that resonate with each other and combined them with a contrasting color that adds an element of surprise and a note of whimsy.  Underlying the oils, a layer of acrylic resin squares and lines gives added texture to the surface of the canvas.
